My name is Pastor Tony Catron I graduate from K.S.U. with a degree in electronic/electrical engineering. While doing that I became a Junior Deacon and also a musician in my dad's ministry in Cleveland, Ohio. Years later, my career took me to Michigan where I worked as a Electrical/Electronic Engineer. While in Michigan I became a Minister, then later went to Seminary training at Birmingham Bible Institute and became an Elder at a large Pentecostal church in Michigan called LLCC. I was called to the ministry by God. So I headed up an outreach ministry based on the End Times, dealing with restoration in people lives. Then my dad called me back to Ohio to help him Pastor his church. During that time, God changed my outreach ministry, turning it into a full-time restoration ministry. He gave me the name Ark of Covenant Ministries and the rest is history.

Street Evangelism & Your Relationship with Jesus

How is Your Relationship with Jesus?

Make sure you have your own relationship with Jesus and know Him well, being confident in your walk with Him. How can you witness to someone about Jesus if you don’t even know Him? Spend time with Him daily.

Make sure that you’re prayed up. Make sure your life is clean and holy. Don’t watch, listen, or do things that are associated with the things of this world. If you are in the mist of a sin, how can you tell someone else to get out of sin?

You meet people at their needs first before you try to give them Jesus (James 2:14-17), particularly those who are poor. Don’t try to heal them first or preach about salvation first until you meet them at their need, giving them food or clothes. A healing may be what they need, so you lay hands on them and pronounce healing over their body. Also be aware of where hospitals are so you can direct them to get medical attention. Those who are poor and in poverty, be careful not to up-rile them by trying to persuade them from getting out of their poverty.

Everything you do in the Lord, make sure its backed up with the Word.

Street Evangelism

Qualities of a Good Street Worker

  1. A vital relationship with the Lord Jesus – You have to spend time with Him daily. How do you spend quality time with Him? You can journal, you can sit in quietness, you can write, or listen to music, praying, reading the Word, playing music, reading Holy material it can vary but however Holy Ghost leads you. One thing that we face is inconsistency in spending time with Him.
  2. Christ’s burden and compassion for the lost – You must have this in your heart. Everyone gets touched and moved when they see little Children that are starving. There are people starving all over the world. We need to show support and meet people’s needs. If you are blessed, what are you doing to bless someone else? When you witness to others look at their circumstances. No matter what has happened to them, they’re still in need. If you see someone in need don’t lack compassion.
  3. A sensitivity which causes the worker to look beyond surface problems and circumstances – This stems from your relationship with Jesus and the significance of hearing His voice when you go out in the world. Holy Ghost will lead you about that person so its important that you know His voice. You need to be available for others to just be a listening ear for others or a person who actually has heart and cares. Holy Ghost will give you words of knowledge about them. Be friendly and approachable and genuine. When it comes to those you encounter that have demonic spirits, you don’t need to run or be afraid. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. If you resist the devil he will flee. You have the authority to cast out demons in Jesus name.
  4. Flexibility which enables the worker to love people before they “shape up” (socially or doctrinaly) – You must love a person and accept them as they are, not condoning their sin. But love them past their sin as a human being created in the image of God. They are lost, and Jesus has called us to win the lost so that they can repent. Become all things to all men that you might win some as Paul said (1 Corinthians 9:19-23). Getting past your own pride in the sense of not wanting to be associated with a person of low social or doctrinal standard; this will kill love in your heart towards others. Instead kill racial, bigot, selfish and high-minded mindsets and see human beings as precious souls.
  5. Dedication and persistence.
  6. Plenty of common sense (common to a spirit-filled person).

Pre-Evangelism Effort Preparation

  1. Make sure all works understand the basics of soul-winning and street work.
  2. Develop a strategy for street Evangelism and acquaint the works with your strategy. As a team leader, you need to know where each person is spiritually in their own lives. We’re going out as workers for Christ and know the people labouring with you.
  3. Have appropriate materials such as tracts, Bible, pencil, paper, etc. Whatever you are sent out with, make sure its together. Many like going out with their phones quicker than having a hard copy of a Bible. Whomever God’s lays on your heart to talk to, talk to them. You don’t go talking to every living person on the street. You don’t go out and try to force people to listen to what you’re saying. Use your gift whether Words of Knowledge or Prophecy.
  4. If you are distributing Gospel literature, familiarize yourself with it. If you don’t care much about what you’re trying to spread why should they?
  5. Dress appropriately (comfortable walking shoes, appropriate clothes for the area). Make sure you wear something that will aid you in helping people. Don’t wear anything with the motive of being attractive sensually or for popularity sake. Know the area you are going into culturally.

Some Common Mistakes

  1. Going to an Evangelism effort without spending appropriate prayer time.
  2. Thinking that handing out tracts, witnessing and holding street meetings is enough to reach your community. This is just a beginning. There must be an involvement with people on a deeper level.
  3. Displaying a professional or missionary attitude to those you are trying to reach. This attitudes projects the idea that you are coming down from your perch to help those “poor, depraved sinners” so they better take heed. You make them feel like you are doing them a favor.
  4. Not being properly prepared for what you will meet culturally, spiritually, etc. in the streets.
  5. Not sticking with the basics and getting sidetracked with theological discussions such as demonology, prophecy, etc., or superficial issues such as drinking, smoking, etc. Its so easy to get side tracked and sometimes that individual will side track you. The best witness you gave give is your own salvation. How you came to this conclusion.
  6. Using Christian expression: “Are you saved?” “Born Again,” “Repent,” etc (If they are used, you must explain their meaning). People who don’t know God won’t know what you are talking about. Explain things in simple terms are Holy Ghost leads you.
  7. Apologizing for what God has kept you from. Don’t make up excuses for why you can’t go out and do certain things like sins. Why God kept you from drinking or partying or smoking or carousing.
  8. Focusing in on race or color. Personifying ethnic stereotypes. Talk to them as though they were human beings with dignity.
  9. Neglecting your personal hygiene and appearance, thinking it doesn’t affect people’s reaction to your witnessing. Being mindful of how other people perceive you. Be who you are but with dignity and cleanliness. Dress in modest apparel.

Situations to avoid:

  1. Don’t use a gathering as a ready-made crowd for you to preach at, such as crap games, sports, etc., be courteous.
  2. Women working with men, men with women. Men should work with men and women with women as much as possible (the exception would be when ministering to homosexuals.)
  3. Working alone. Workers should work in teams of twos. Lone Rangers cause problems. Why two by two?
  • Jesus sent them out that way — Mark 6:7
  • One can pray as the other witnesses — Matthew 18:20
  • If one is in trouble, the other can help

Reacting to Threats or Arguments

  1. Try to avoid negative confrontations if at all possible, either physical or verbal.
  2. Pray! Ask God for courage, strength and wisdom — spirit filled common sense.
  3. Don’t react in kind (abuse for abuse, etc). Don’t repay unkindness for unkindness.
  4. Don’t take any threats ligthly, they just might be serious.
  5. A strong negative reaction may be a reaction to you personally, your appearance, style of communication, etc. In that case move away or let another worker “substitute” in your place.
  6. If this is a reaction to the Gospel, be ready to suffer the consequences.
  7. Be prepared to die for your faith if need be.
  8. Always use common sense.

Type of people you will encounter in Evangelism

  1. Non-informed -This group lacks the necessary information about Christ. Even if they wanted they would not know how to become Christians. We must be aware of the gaps in their knowledge and build from there to Christ.
  2. Informed – These are people that are informed of the Gospel but haven’t acted on this information. These people need not to be crammed with the Gospel, but rather acknowledged and prayed for.

Talking to street people

  1. Encourage people. Bring hope to them. You don’t have to focus on their sin. They are well aware of their sin.
  2. Talk to, not at people.
  3. Listen to what they are saying.
  4. Speak their language. After finding out who they are and what their demeanor and personality are, speak on their level. Be simple at all costs.

Praying with people in the street

  1. Don’t place your hands on a person’s head. This has negative cultural connotations. For example, to many blacks, it would be a very demeaning gesture; what as master would to to a slave.
  2. Rather, place hands on persons shoulder.
  3. Don’t speak in tongues. This only distracts and frightens those outside of the Pentecostal circles.
  4. Don’t get too emotional. Again, this frightens and distracts people.
  5. Key your prayers short.
  6. Leave most of your time to talk with the individual. Make sure the person you are praying for understands the basics of what’s going on.
  7. Lead people through the “sinner’s prayer.” Acts 2:28
  8. More important than praying “for” someone is helping a person pray for him/herself.

While in a Storm, Whose Report Will You Believe Jesus or Men

In this world of misdirection of one’s own understanding, along with the controlling thoughts of others, man’s heart has turned colder and hard. People are so into themselves and have their own form of salvation. This is not according to the Word of God, but it’s according to their own form of knowledge that is derived from the hurt and pain they have endured, over the different types of emotional and irrational events in their life, or from the life of others. These kind of things in peoples lives will cause people to doubt Jesus words or even that He is who He said He is.

This type will begin to establish their own type of righteousness using an augmented form of the words of Jesus and will then will try to control others or convince them to follow their way of understanding, leading them into a from of holiness that is not from the Lord, but from their own form of ungodliness. In this world, this has become the norm for a lot of people.

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

2 Timothy 3:5-8

Why is it that out of hurt and revenge, coupled with a broken heart and trust issues, that people tend to drag others into their pain and anguish?Living that emotional event in their life over and over, thereby creating the perfect storm in their life. Storms tend to draw everything around them in to their midst. Anything that comes in contact with a storm gets destroyed as well. We all know if we are caught in someone else’s storm. You may ask yourself, “How would I know if I’m caught in somebody’s else storm?” You need to ask yourself these question:

  1. Do you find yourself upset when you’re around the thing that person doesn’t like?
  2. When you are around that individual who has a storm, are your emotions heighten?
  3. Are you a dumping ground for their disgust or are you their sounding board?
  4. Do you feel heavy and spiritual depleted after leaving them?
  5. Is their lifestyle a Godly one?
  6. Do you feel you have to repent after having been with them?
  7. Do they always find fault with real people of God?

So I’m asking all of you…who’s report do you believe? If you start believing the word of the ungodly, then their perfect storm will begin to distort your view of God’s love. You might ask, “What shall I do?”

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18

I’ll leave you with why we do what we do for Christ.

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 53: 1-12

Matthew 22

Parable of the Wedding Feast

As was His custom, Jesus teaches using parables and gives such a parable about a wedding feast. There were those who were invited to the celebration, but were too preoccupied with their own lives that they devalued its great importance. These represent individuals in the Church who know better but don’t want obey. When the King sent them summons to the festivities, some murdered the messengers. These also represent the Israelite people who were already on the guest list to be invited to partake of the Kingdom of Heaven. They took it lightly and they were not worthy. As a result, the King sends for bad and good to come in to the wedding. Many gentiles were called. However, those weren’t willing to come cleanly and properly with the correct wedding garment to celebrate so they weren’t chosen to remain as a honored guests. They were instead thrown out.

The Pharisees Try to Entrap Jesus

Those who tried to trap Jesus are rebutted in truth by Jesus. But Jesus supernaturally knows their cunning scheme. They want to entrap Him by causing Him to say something against the governing authorities. But Jesus encourages us to give to the government what they require, but give to God all that He requires of us. We have an obligation to do what is required of the government we live in, but an even great obligation to give to God of ourselves what is due him, because we were created in His image.

Marriage and the Resurrection

The Sadducees took what the Old Testament said about providing an heir for a deceased relative out of context to support their doctrinal tradition about Resurrection. Even then people were grossly misappropriating the scriptures to support their opinions. But Jesus said their observations were not according to scripture nor were they interpreted through the power of God.

The Greatest Commandment

When the Pharisees saw that Jesus had shut the Sadducees down, they decided to take a turn at trying to test him by asking what the greatest of all the commandments was. Jesus summed all the Law and the Prophets up in one word: love. Loving God with every passion of the heart, all the energy of the being and with every thought within is the 1st and the 2nd is like it: love your neighbor the same way you’d love yourself.

Summary

  1. Do not neglect the call of Christ (1-13)
  2. Be prepared for your calling (1-13)
  3. Whose image is on your heart (20-22)
  4. Serve Christ with a willing heart (3, 6)
  5. There is an open place at the table of mercy (9)
  6. Understanding scripture is by the power of God (29)
  7. Don’t take light the calling of Christ (5)

What Does Jesus Need to Do to Get Through to You?

In the movie Color Purple, there is a song that was a hit on stage with choirs everywhere. The title of the song is “God is Trying to Tell You Something.” The scene entails a young women, the daughter of a preacher that had a beautiful voice, and she went into the worldly night clubs to sing. Then one day she was singing Blues outside at a lake near her Dad’s church. During the Church service, one of the old mothers leaned over and said to tell the Choir to sing, “God is Trying to Tell You Something” while the Dad was preaching that God has a way to drive you back home. When a young girl in the choir started to sing, her voice carried across the lake, drowning out the Pastor’s daughter, in so much that the Pastor’s daughter could sing no more. Everybody stopped their activities, looking at her, wondering why she had stopped singing. Then suddenly the Pastor’s daughter began to sing the same she heard the choir sing, beginning to walk towards the Church on the other side of the lake. She was singing with joy as everybody from the club followed behind her. They eventually reach the Church door and interjected with singing loudly along with the choir. The daughter came face to face with her Daddy and ran up to hug him tightly, and said in his ear, “See Daddy, sinners have soul too,” with tears.

Now this leads me to the song that was sung, “God is Trying to Tell You Something.” It’s not just a song, but it was one form of communication through which God was trying to speak with or reach an individual. God has been trying to talk to all of us in multiple ways:

  • 1. Through other people
  • 2. Through dreams
  • 3. By the words of the Bible (KJV)
  • 4. Through events in one’s life whether Good or bad tragedies

When all your efforts or hard work on a thing get worse or even fail, it’s sometimes hard to know when Jesus is trying to talk to you, when you are full of you.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 14:12

Sometime as people we can’t see reasoning when we are looking at it from unrealistic or unreasonable mindsets. That is why one can’t talk to a hungry person about anything until that person has been given what they need.

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

James 2:14-18

Why try to gain the things of this life that fad away like flowers or 3 day old pizza? You know the pizza has sat out in a box for a few days and has grown mold on it, or you left it at the back of the refrigerator for a couple days and it become harder and inedible. I think we all can attest to that. But the question you must ask yourself is this: how much does your soul mean to you?

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

James 2:14-18

Last, the Word of God says this:

15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

Hebrews 3:15

And it is so!

Matthew 21

Jesus Entering Jerusalem

Jesus comes into Jerusalem riding on a lowly donkey. The people were welcoming His entry into Jerusalem with enthusiasm. According to a commentary by a Pastor, this event was actually rehearsed among the people for years and years and years. It was done as an annual rehearsal which was actually coming true in their day and time. They didn’t realize they were fulfilling a prophecy. We can get caught up in “tradition,” that we miss Jesus’ presence.

Jesus in the Temple

Whilst in the Temple, Jesus ran people out who were stealing from folks and as the crippled and blind came into the temple courts, Jesus began healing folks. Later in the village of Bethany, Jesus displayed His mighty authority over creation by cursing a fig tree which instantly withered away. The disciples were astonished at how quickly the tree became degenerative. Jesus explained that if a person has undoubted faith, they could do the same. Everything we pray for with the fullness of faith we’ll receive!

Parable of Two Sons

Harlots and publicans are compared to the 1st son in the parable who denied his father but had remorse about his wayward heart and repented, thus obeyed his father. The chief priests and elders are compared to the second son in the parable, who thought he was ok with telling a lie and being disobedient. His heart was unchanged and corrupted by selfishness and he had no remorse about his actions.

Parable of the Rejected Son

The parable of the rejected son illustrates that those crooked tenants of the vineyard were the Pharisees and scholars who had murderous, greedy, and lust filled hearts. They were in place of keeping God’s precious vineyard, but they despised God by not representing His true character of acceptance. So God is going to give their inheritance of the Kingdom of God’s vineyard to those who will accept it with open hearts and faithful tend to it. Can we be good stewards over Gods people, or the ministry He’s given us to do?

Jesus is the stone, the corner stone which was rejected has become the most important stone. The one who comes against the stone will be broken but the one on whom it falls will be pulverized.
